The 2006 World Cup began along with the 2006 NXL finals. Going by the schedule, our guys received the opportunity to play in the first of the elimination matches.
For the third time the Russian Legion schooled the newbies of the league ? team X-factor.
We won with a score of 8:7, but do not be surprised by the score. We played using 3 sets of five, always changing the makeup of the team; this was, in essence, a practice run for us. All of our players are in good shape and we are awaiting the next game!
In the photograph: Kyril had a Hybrid hopper which just fell apart. Despite this setback, while holding the top down, he was able to eliminate two opponents!
Results of the other games:
Americans (9) vs. Ultimate (3)
Ironmen (11) vs. LTZ (6)
Raiders (10) vs. Assassins (5)
Strange (8) vs. Legacy (5)
XSV (5) vs. Naughty Dogs (9)
Trauma (5) vs. Aftershock (10 )
Dynasty (9 ) vs. Xtreme (8) overtime
The results were quite interesting. Team Strange, who had been doing poorly all season, were able to defeat Legacy, which had been additionally bolstered by good players who had switched over from various teams.
Team XSV, having lost many good players, is in a very shaky position. Having begun an excellent season, the team lost player after player because of financial problems and as a result lost to the Naughty Dogs.
Even more surprising was the loss of the victor of the Intercontinental Cup, team Trauma to team Aftershock, who also are not experiencing their best times. The score was quite formidable as well.
But this is the World Cup, after all, where the motivation of teams to win is higher than ever.
It was this type of motivation that allowed the team New York Extreme to hold their own up until the last seconds against Dynasty. Everything was only decided in overtime.
The rest of the results were predictable enough.
We await our team?s second game, which will take place at 16:15 in the U.S. (00:15 on the 10th of November our time). The game will be very interesting; the second opponent will be team Legacy.
